Ukraine on fire!

Dear ladies & gentlemen,

I would like this post to draw a little bit extra attention to the situation that is currently going on in ukraine. In case you haven’t heard it yet, demonstrants and government are fighting with each other and it’s said that around 100 persons were killed when snipers shot the crowd. Today, the president announced that there will be new, earlier elections so let us hope that this can bring calm to this country but there were already losses so my thoughts go out to the family of these persons.

Let the games begin !

Dear ladies & gentlemen,

The winter olympic games in Sotchi are ready to start and I have to be honest I can’t make any prediction about any results because I know absolutely nothing about these winter sports. It’s a flaw in my sports knowledge but it’s true. Off course, these winter games will not only be remembered for the sports results. There have been and there is a debate about Russia and his policies. Many persons loved to see a boycot against these games but please, the sporters can not do anything about it. they would like to have their moment of glory so please give it to them. Give the sporters what they deserve. A Huge moment for which they’ve all been waiting for.

PS: While writing this, I hear that the russian delegance enters the ceremony while a song of t.A.T.u. is playing. According to my knowledge and some quick googling, still a lesbian band.

Facebook is 10 years old. Perhaps the fastest rising enterprise in the world who managed to reach out to so many customers. In 10 years time, this enterprise managed to make a simple web site part of every day life for a lot of people on this planet. Many activities have a part of their base within Facebook and it’s magnificent to see that you can reach this succes in 10 years. You can only say “well done” to that!

Super Bowl

Dear ladies & gentlemen,

As a european, I think it’s hard for us to imagine the greatness of the super bowl. We hardly know the sport, for sure in belgian, and yet we see this enormous figures and news coming to our way when the super bowl has taken place. It’s strange that while we are living in a globalized world, there is still such a big event that is for a big part national. We just don’t get it but we know it’s important in the USA. We don’t even know the rules. The popularity and purpose of sport is and will always be a mystery to us. We don’t know why we get excited, why we are fans from a team or an individual but we all are one from someone. Strange but it’s a fact.

Day 2 : world championships cyclo cross

Dear ladies & gentlemen,

Today, two of the most talented male crossers have become world champion. Belgian Wout van Aert won at the younger category and Zdenek Stybar won the elite race. In Stybar’s 7th race of the season, he managed to beat Sven Nys in an epic battle between two great cyclists. It’s unfortunate that someone who is doing the sport just for fun can beat the ones that are every weekend in the field. Yes, Stybar may be less tired than the others and it can influence the result. It’s unlucky for the sport but Stybar remains a great rider and an all-round cyclists. It’s not so nice that we want see the jersey but that’s life, the race decides and Stybar was together with Nys the best in the race.

Marianne Vos : respect !

Dear ladies & gentlemen,

This weekend, the world championships cyclo cross in Hoogerheide are taking place and today was the time for the juniors and the women. A fully belgian podium for the juniors and the best woman was once again Marianne Vos. We have to be honest, Marianne Vos is one of the greatest sports personalities in the world that ever lived. the way she dominates a sport is almost never seen. Most sports have seasons, either they sport in the winter, either they sport in the summer. Marianne Vos doesn’t know the existence from these seasons. She rides the whole year and she wins the whole year. In every world championship she starts, she’s a favourite. She’s the best in cyclo cross, hard to beat on the track and if that isn’t enough, she almost wins every stage in the giro or tour for women. She is a superwoman in her sport and the person who doesn’t have respect for her is a foolish person.

Ben Scrivens, What a goalkeeper !

Dear ladies & gentlemen,

I don’t know much about ice hockey. But I know that what goalkeeper Ben Scrivens did in a match is just top class. I know enough from the sport to know that the other team must score less than you do and I know enough of the sport to have tons of respect for his achievement. Congratulations to Ben Scrivens on his once in a lifetime -sport night.

Schumacher out of coma?

Dear ladies & gentlemen,

Ex-formula one driver and one of the biggest sporters that ever lived, Michael Schumacher, is now in a coma for one month after a ski-accident. After one month of living in an artificial coma, the doctors decided to try to bring him back. I truly hope from my heart that everything goes well and that rather soon than late, Michael Schumacher and his family and friends can start with a decent recovery with everyone he loves besides him. Let us all hope for a good end in his toughest race so far.
